Clan Falconer History
Derived from the name of one who breeds and trains falcons or hawks.
Matheus the falconer is one of the witnesses to a charter by Earl David (1202-1203) and William the Falconer granted land to the kirk of Maryton.
The Falconers may have also been known by the name ‘Hawker’ as their estate was called Haulkerston.
In 1296 Robert le Faukener of Kincardyn en Miernes rendered homage at Aberdeen.
Gervase le Fauconer was one of those taken prisoner at Dunbar in 1296 and was still prisoner at the Castle of Wisbeach in 1307.
Heliscus Faucuner who was burgess of Montrose had a charter of lands in Montrose in 1350, and in 1379 there is record of payment made to William Fauconer who was a Scottish merchant arrested in Yarmouth.
Andrew Faucounere de Lethinvar on inquisition in 1380 in Badenoch is likely the same Andreas Fawconer, juror on inquest in the episcopal lands of Aldrochty in 1393.
